Halloween

10/30/2014

This is somewhat of a last minute thought, to include a couple of episodes for Halloween tomorrow.  Whilst Halloween wasn't celebrated when I was a kid, nor even when my children were young, though my kids did trick or treat a couple of times with mixed success.  But now in my Grandchildrens era, it has become more of an accepted celebration in Australia.  More to do with retailers seeing an opportunity, than anything else I think.

However, in the spirit, so to speak, I decided tonight to include a couple of spooky stories in this blog in order to set the scene a little tomorrow night, or the next night for Americans.  I myself will be at the Nash Theatre in Brisbane enjoying a night of Poe, radio drama style.  If you can get there, make the effort, going by past performances at the Nash, it will be a lot of fun.  Audience participation is encouraged.

I am going to include two episodes of a very short series that was only these two episodes.  Apparently they couldn't attract a sponsor so the series didn't really get off the ground, sadly, because it would have been a very good series.

An American collector/Historian once said that it was only two episodes because it was deemed to be too scary for Australians.  A good story, but not true.

Whilst I did consider episodes from 'Adventure into Fear', 'Phantom Time', various plays from General Motors Hour or Lux Radio Theatre, I decided on these two episode from 'The Haunted Hour'.  They certainly do fit the Halloween theme but they are also nostalgic for me as they were given to me by Craig Nugent nearly 15 years ago as amoungst the first of many Australian shows he sent to educate me on Australian Radio Production.  They were certainly first in the 'Horror' genre.

The Haunted Hour is a Donovan Joyce Production.  I do not have a year nor cast list, apart from Lloyd Lamble doing an excellent job as Narrator.

Now you just have to turn the lights off and listen to these stories in the dark.

Enjoy!
