Website Update Announcement |
With the sad passing of my friend Ian Grieve OAM in March 2025, it was his wish that the ownership and operation of the Australian Old Time Radio website be transferred to me.
With the help of his family, and in particular his wife Dawn, we have now achieved that end.
I have been a part time contributor to this website over the years, and am a fellow Old Time Radio collector and enthusiast for over 35 years. I have contributed many articles to various other radio history groups, OTR websites, and archive organisations for more than 10 years.
I’m keen to continue on Ian’s legacy here, and add more information and articles pertaining to our Australian Old Time Radio History.
Long time contributor Allan Black has graciously offered to continue his excellent reader’s contribution articles, as well as help in other areas.

I received a suggestion from a regular visitor, to have a page listing the latest changes to the site, so they can see what is new since their last visit. I think it is a good idea and so I will try and remember to keep a rough timetable of changes here for regular visitors.

2016 UPDATES
January 5th 2016 - Added What's new ? to the headings and shifted Memorabilia and Radio Clubs under Radio History. Changed Readers letters to Readers Contributions. Researching how to bring the database into the site or at least be able to link to it even if it is on my business site. This will bring back the ability to search for series or People to assist researchers. Early days yet but... who knows?
January 5th 2016 - Finally finished the Production House listing and the series titles they produced. Started moving Year and Date First Broadcast information across. That will take some time. I have a couple of blog ideas, so will kick off a blog or two later in the week.
January 2016 - Mostly its all about getting the Production Houses section up to date. I have expanded the listings of Production Houses and the series titles from where I had left it last year in the A's to currently in the M's. I hope to have the full listing up to date by the end of this week before I go back to work. I will leave the Year and Date First Broadcast columns blank and transfer that information across as time allows. Unfortunately I have to cut and past every year and date manually and it is a boring and time consuming job. At least if I get all the Production Houses and Series names in there, you can do a word search for titles you want to research. Also with the dates next to the series name you will have the information to hand anyway. For U.S. researchers, remember Australian dates are dd-mm-yyyy
February 2016 - Updating the list of resources, adding new titles, also sorting out the cupboards where the magazines are stored. Experimenting with scanning settings and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) ready to digitise the magazine collection and make them word searchable for researching. The Radio Call Newspapers 1937 to 1956 have already been scanned by Goulds apart from new issues discovered since. Issues 1957 - 1970's have not been added to the resources list as yet.
