The South Australian Radio Call
Radio Call was THE Radio newspaper for South Australia and was first published in 1937.
Very similar in style and format to Melbourne's Listener In magazine which also became a newspaper later in life, Radio Call not only reflects South Australia, but also contains news and program guides from other states in Australia and oversees.
Content includes Radio gossip, programing, news, ads, television news and later, programming. Theatre, Hollywood gossip, pictures of stars, cartoon strips both Australian and International as well as advertising for a large range of household appliances, furniture etc just like an entertainment paper of today.
Archive CD Books have digitised the Radio Call collection of Ian Grieve and have presented 20 years of Radio Call on CDs.
This has meant that we now have 20 years worth of Radio Call, unfortunately not complete, in digital format and we are able to conduct word and phrase searches across 20 years in minutes. You can see for yourself the quality of the scans.
Hopefully this test project will be successfull for Archive CD Books and they will digitise more of Ian's collection of Radio magazines and newspapers.
The release of Radio Call in digital format has boosted our research greatly. We are no longer Melbourne/Sydney centric, which was the case due to availability of the necessary information and resources.
We has presented these slideshows for your enjoyment and you will see why we have been excited to get this information out of the newspapers and into a digital format.
The slideshows presented all work the same way. Click on any thumbnail image for the slideshow to begin. You may click on the next/previous buttons or pause in the usual manner, or just let it run by itself. Click the back key to return here.
More Radio Call slideshows will be added over the coming weeks so please return often.
